The “Karoo Main Basin” is a vast sediment basin, with an area of over 400,000 square kilometers. It includes Impressive mountain ranges, fertile valleys, beautiful plateaus and semi-deserts. In over 100 million years many wonders of nature have been created in the Karoo such as the “Cango Caves” with over 500,000 year old dripstone caverns or close by the 2512m high Swartberg Mountain.

The Karoo covers the whole of the southern third of the South African Republic and is divided into “Great Karoo”, “Little Karoo” and “High Karoo”.

krankskloof-country-lodge-za-area-02 The Kranskloof Country Lodge is located the province “Western Cape” in the “Little Karoo” on its own plateau in the green valley of the Cango Cave Mountains. The landscape is blessed with gentle rolling hills rising up to a height of 800m before joining the Swartberg Mountains. The region is water rich and has on average 320 days of sun per year, which combined with the comfortable dry air creates a perfect habitat for a multitude of animals and plants. In the Valley with its many trees, you can enjoy wonderful walks, mountain bike rides or rock-climbing.
